RE: Favorite Smoking Wood...

I like the folowing woods for smoking. Hickory, Pecan, Oak, Mesquite, Cherry, Plum, Apple Grapevines. Seeing how you posted around Thanksgiving and if you are doing a bird I have found Pecan to be a crowd pleaser. V/R Jeff

RE: Spare tire

I started carrying one (unmounted) in Aug 07 after being held hostage in Front Royal Va for approx 18 hours while the shyster located a tire. Then charged and astronomical price for replacement tire. Carry it in a pass through bay. V/R Jeff

RE: Poconos, Pa. to Virginia Beach

jsl910, On Holidays website they recommend getting off I-264 at Birdneck. This presents a couple of problems for you. A. Do you want to continue on RT 13 after the toll pick up I-64 for one exit to I-264. B. Get off of Rt 13 after the toll (all good roads to Holiday and I will not take you through the resort strip. If you use A. above may I suggest you get off at South First Colonial Rd which is the exit before Birdneck. You can only go right at the bottom of the ramp. Continure on First Colonial past a WAWA on your right (this is the intersection with Va Bech BLVD) continue straight on First Colonial you wil go around a corner and over some RR tracks and road turns into Oceana BLVd. Continue on this past the main entrance to NAS Oceana on your right. At this point get in left lane you will see the Navy Commissary on your left, continue to General Booth Blvd and turn left (will be a motorcycle bar/restaurant on your left). Continue down General Booth approx 1.5 miles and Holiday Trav-L will be on your left you will see the flags. You pass the KOA on your right prior to arrival at Holiday. If you want to get off of RT 13 take your first exit after the CBBT complex. At bottom of ramp turn left onto Shore Drive. Continue down Shore Drive (right lane is fine)over the Lesner Bridge. Continue on Shore Drive until you come to Great Neck RD (just past the second Fire Station that you pass by on Great Neck). Bear right onto Great Neck Road Follow Great Neck road past Cox High School on your right. Move over to your left most lane and continue until you come to the light at First Colonial (Exxon on your left think it is the second light). Turn left here and continue on First Colonial. You will eventually go past Sentara Hospital on your left, then a KMART on your left and Target on your right then under I-264 (then follow direction in option A above) It is shorter going thru the resort strip but many more lights, pedestrians, bikes, drunks etc and narrower roads. Not know your arrival time I think I would want to avoid this. V/R Jeff

RE: Poconos, Pa. to Virginia Beach

jsl910, Yes ther are areas to pull off (rest areas at state borders). Rt 13 is a great route. Where are you going here in Va Beach. If Holiday Trav-L or Va Beach KOA let me know I will give you a work around to avoid the construction on Birdneck RD. Road has cones everywhere and has no shoulder. Not sure what you would do if you met an emergency vehicle. V/R Jeff

RE: Big Green Egg

j.frank, Usually at one of the "Egg" events (ie egg fest in Waldorf Md or Eggtoberfest in Atlanta) that being said you still can find some good deals at times with your local purveyour. I have two large eggs and a mini. Enjoy them a grunch. Also have a Nr 7 Kamado and just missed a used grill dome in our local shopper. Hop over to the egghead forum and folks there may be able to point you in the correct direction. Heck seeing you are from Alabama maybe a ride over to Atlanta would be warranted. You can look at three different companies then BGE. Primo and Grill Dome and most likely be able to cut a good deal. V/R Jeff aka VaNole

RE: College football - week 6

Not wanting to start anything here and yes I'm a Nole fan and I do like just about any college team except the team from Hogtown wearing Orange and Blue. Tide Fans don't get too far ahead of yourselves quite yet. Still have yet to win and ugly game (read LSU/Auburn) neither are offensive juggernaughts but have stout "D's". I mentioned this last week I still can't get that loss last year in Jacksonville to the Noles out of my mind. Yes a year makes a difference and Saban is a great coach but what the heck are you feeding them guys down there gorilla biscuits or something. I do hope you all do not have a let down this week and ROLL into November undefeated. I do enjoy watching SEC football and once again this year in my opinion it is the best conference in the land.

RE: going to virginia beach

redvett, Yes stop at the propane inspection. jplunkett (JP) gies you good advice about the stop I would like to add a couple of things. Making your approach to the tunnel when you pass the Bass Pro Shop get the lane one in as (JP states) if traffic backs up you will not be riding in the breakdown lane then. At this propane inspection station watch out when exiting back into traffic there is and on ramp for state vehicles that you merge with on your right. I mentioned in my previous post to continue down to RT 13 I would do that and you may see RT 13 advertised as Northhampton BLVD they are one and the same. When you come off the ramp stay in the lane you are funneled into. Once past the WAWA you will end up in the right ane which is fine. Stay there until you see the exit for Shore Drive (advertised as last exit before toll)take that and at bottom of ramp go right. Shore Drive is 4 lanes here and will neck down to 2 east bound stay alert drivers are not very courteous here. I hope you enjoy your stay. It has been getting chilly in the evening nothing like Ohio so don't leave your jackets at home. V/R Jeff

RE: going to virginia beach

jplunkett me thinks you are correct. I was just on the VDOT site and here is what it says. Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT), I-64 The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel is the oldest tunnel on I-64 in Hampton Roads. It connects Hampton and Newport News to Norfolk and Virginia Beach. The first two-lane tunnel opened in 1957 and a second opened in 1976. Nearly three million vehicles use it each month. It carries more than 100,000 vehicles a day during the tourist season. During heavy traffic, many motorists use the MMMBT on I-664 instead. The HRBT does not charge a toll. Restrictions I-64 West maximum height: 13 feet 6 inches (without permit) I-64 East maximum height: 14 feet 6 inches (with permit) Maximum width (with permit): 10 feet 6 inches Wider vehicles must be escorted by VDOT. My M/H is almost 13' and I have never been stopped nor questioned about height. V/R Jeff

RE: going to virginia beach

redvett, Yes by all means use the HRBT however I would not take RT 60 just outside the tunnel it takes you right thru Oceanview. Though Norfolk has cleaned this up in recent years road is narrow and many traffic lights. I would continue down I-64 to Rt 13 and get off at Shore Drive which is also RT 60 at this point. It is the last exit prior to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. This way you miss a grunch of lights. Shore Drive (RT 60) at this point is and easy drive. Watch for pedestrians near the Lesner Bridge (couple of Friday night restaurants in the area). If you need any help give me a holler I live about 1 mile from First Landing. RT 60 is a confusing road for non locals depending on where you are at its called Ocenaview Ave or Shore Drive. I think it changes names at Gate 1 for Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek. V/R Jeff

RE: College football - week 5

Couple things the Beavers did in my opinion... 1. Mark May now has to find a new Man Crush. 2. We no Longer have to listen about Beanie (& Weenie) Wells foot prognosticators. Airwaves are humming about the Beavers victory. 3. Wiped that smug smile of Petey's mug. Now its time for the SEC to seperate the men for the boys. Pleeeeeeeeeease someone shred the Crocs (I know my Noles are not up to the task, heck we are down right pathetic)and make Oscar I mean Urban Meyer cry. I know a year is along time ago however I'm not sold on Bama yet... Remember this team got rolled by FSU last year in Jacksonville and the Noles were horrid then. However good luck against the Dawgs!!

Buy the licence and enjoy dipping the line in whatever state you are in. Seen much balloon juice on a National Fishing License but not much traction. V/R Jeff
